Cawdale Round - Lake District Walk
Saturday 25th November 2006
Today's walk was in many ways a bonus as we had travelled up to the Lakes the night before expecting gale force winds to keep us off the fells on Saturday. The gales never materialised, although it was fairly windy on the tops, but we did get a good drenching on our way off Loadpot Hill.
Start: Moorahill Farm (NY 4937 1819)
Route: Moorahill Farm - Hause End - Low Kop (136) - Red Crag (137) - Wether Hill (138) - Loadpot Hill (139) - Hart Hill - Moorahill Farm
Distance: 8.75 miles Ascent: 498 metres Time Taken: 4 hrs 50 mins
Weather: Overcast and breezy, heavy rain by the end of the walk.
Pub Visited: Mardale Inn, Bampton Ale Drunk: Academy Ale, Tirril Brewery
Looking up at the Hause and the route to Low Kop from the start of the walk.
The very fast moving and deep Cawdale Beck. Without the bridge we would have struggled to cross it today.
The summit of Low Kop has nothing to let you know you have arrived at the top.
As we made our way to High Kop we got a view of Haweswater.
Looking back at the featureless Low Kop from High Kop. The Pennines are in the distance.
Once we reached the old Roman road of High Street we were rewarded with this wonderful view of the Helvellyn range.

Red Crag's summit cairn, not quite as big as Birkett described it.
